HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. — One man was killed and another rushed to the hospital following a shooting Sunday evening in Holly Springs.
According to police, officers with the Holly Springs department received a call from the 100 block of Chatham Drive around 7:45 p.m. Sunday.
When they arrived they found 27-year-old Edhelredge “Happy” Balfour in the yard suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was set to be airlifted to the Regional Medical Center for treatment, but he didn’t make it to the airstrip.
Another man was also shot and was taken to a local hospital by private vehicle.
Witnesses said they heard about 30 shots and saw a silver car speeding from the area. There are no suspects.
Balfour’s cousin, Anthony Ford, said the victim owned a trucking business.
“He was friends with everyone, tried to help everyone, such as me, too,” Ford said.
WREG was near the home Monday when Holly Springs police returned to the scene.
The Marshall County sheriff says his office is also helping by interviewing people of interest, including the person who came with Balfour to the home.
That friend also got injured and went to the hospital but is doing OK.
A neighbor said he thinks drugs may be involved.
But Ford says he never knew his cousin to do drugs.
Adding even more stress for his family, Balfour’s mother is in the hospital..
“I hate this happened and now our family have to prepare a funeral,” Ford said.
Authorities said they are set to do a witness interview Tuesday morning and should have an update on charges after that.
