MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police are investigating a crash that left one person dead and two people arrested Sunday morning.
The incident happened at I-240 and Poplar Avenue.
Police said Ramiro Junior was driving westbound on I-240 when he lost control of his car, leaving the roadway. Junior’s car came back onto the roadway and headed eastbound in the westbound lane, hitting the front of a Ford Fusion car that was traveling westbound on I-240.
Junior was transported to Regional Medical Center in noncritical condition.
The passenger in the Ford Fusion died at the scene; the driver was taken to Regional Medical Center in noncritical condition.
During the investigation police said they found several open, several broken and several unopened bottles of Corona beer inside Junior’s car. There was also a case of 18 bottles that was in the back seat of Junior’s car as well.
Police said Junior appeared to be under the influence and was arrested.
I-240 was completely shut down for the westbound traffic until 7 a.m. Sunday.
Junior was charged with vehicular homicide, two counts of vehicular assault, reckless driving, DUI, public intoxication and three more other charges.
The second driver, Samuel Badillo, was also arrested and charged with no driver license and financial responsibility/Ricky Otts Law.
