MEMPHIS, Tenn. — One man is dead and multiple people were detained Wednesday morning following a shooting in Whitehaven.

Memphis Police responded at 10 a.m. to a report of a shooting at the Peppertree Apartments in the 4200 block of Graceland Drive.

One man was found with a gunshot wound and pronounced dead on the scene. MPD confirmed the victim was 18.

Police have not identified the victim or the suspects, and have not said what might have motivated the shooting.

“Makes me feel bad. You can`t let your kids go out and play like you used to,” said one tenant.

“Normal yes. Very normal,” said Larry Fullilove.

He said the gun violence happens far too often in the area.

“Me waking up and hearing gunshots. That’s not normal. I can come ask here and ask the hood where the shots came from and find out quicker than police,” he said.

If Peppertree Apartments sounds familiar, there’s a reason.

The complex has had a history of problems. In 2015, MPD reported 1,000 calls from murders to drugs. That number dropped more than a half last year.
