MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis police say a man was shot and killed in an Orange Mound apartment complex Sunday morning.

Police say the shooting happened just after 8:30 a.m. in the Cherokee Square Apartments on Filmore Avenue. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene.

WREG crews were on the scene when the shots rang out, causing neighbors to run out of the complex yelling for help.

One neighbor told WREG’s Jerrita Patterson they saw a man they thought to be the gunman.

“I looked out the window,” the neighbor said. “The guy was in a red car and he was bald headed…”

Police say the suspect reportedly left the scene in a burgundy or red vehicle.

Investigators say the believe they know who the gunman may be but will release that information at a later time.

This is the second shooting to occur in the area since Saturday. Police say a man was shot at a residence near the apartment complex just after 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
