MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Seven people were shot during a a street race Saturday night in southwest Memphis.

All victims were treated and released, police said.

Memphis police say the victims were racing along Riverport Road near Rivergate Drive when someone started shooting. They said it stemmed from an argument.

Five people showed up at the Regional Medical Center, by private vehicle, in critical condition. MPD tweeted around 9:30 that all five victims were going to be okay.

Public Information Officer Louis Brownlee with MPD says some of the victims may have been injured from broken glass.

As you saw this weekend, illegal street racing can be extremely dangerous for the participants, spectators, innocent motorists in the area, and bystanders,” Memphis Police Director Michael Rallings said in a statement. “If you witness illegal street racing anywhere in the City of Memphis, you are encouraged to call the police.”
