Police name suspect in deadly double stabbing in Nutbush

UPDATE: Ledis Sanchez was booked into the Shelby County Jail on Monday, February 17, several hours after police say he stabbed his wife and killed her daughter on Vernon Avenue near Salem Street. 

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis police are looking for a man accused critically stabbing a woman and killing another in Nutbush early Sunday morning.

A warrant for Ledis Sanchez has been issued on first degree murder and attempted murder charges.


Memphis police say Ledis Sanchez is responsible for a deadly double stabbing in the Nutbush area.

MPD says Sanchez critically stabbed his wife and killed her daughter around 2:30 a.m. on Vernon Avenue, near Salem Street.

Sanchez’ wife was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Her daughter was pronounced dead at the scene.

WREG spoke with neighbors in the area who say word of the attack spread fast.

“Just going at it with a knife or whatever,” One person said. “To me, it could have been a machete as far as I know. I don’t know but a knife because there were cut marks everywhere.”

According to a tweet from MPD on Sunday, Sanchez ran from the scene wearing a black cap, a red and blue jersey, jeans and white Nike shoes. He also goes by the names Ledis Sanchez Baquendano and Ledy Sanchez.
