(Nashille, TN) There’s a lot of talk about gun laws in the Mid-South, but what one Memphis lawmaker says about guns may leave you speechless.
When the state senate talked about allowing people to have guns in parking lots Senator Ophelia Ford made sure everyone knew what she thinks about guns, and that she carries one, “I make it no secret to anyone that I am a handgun carrier and have been since I was 24 and I’m only 25 now (laughs).”
During parts of her comments, it’s hard to make sense of what she’s saying.
Then, she proceeds to lighten the mood a little bit.
It’s not the first time she’s made news for what she said.
Some of her tirades have been on the angry side.
In the past her family said she has a drinking problem but she blames anemia for her off comments and behavior even the time when she fell off a hotel bar stool in Nashville and was hospitalized.
We showed the video of her latest rant to her constituents in District 29.
Karen Harper laughed, “What is she doing.”
Shaquita Epps said, “She’s on something. That’s not normal behavior. Something ain’t right.”
We asked Harper who said she voted for Ford, why she continues to support her at the ballot box if she thinks her behavior in Nashville is so odd, “I’m not sure. I’m really not sure. I think the devil you know is better than the devil you don’t know.”
However, one Ford, who has no relationship to the senator, doesn’t agree.
“I don’t care who she may be or what she may be but sometimes when you need to step down you need to step down. If you don’t do it voluntarily, you need to be forced to do it,” said Jerry Ford.
