MEMPHIS, Tenn. — An organization devoted to getting the chronically homeless off the streets got some help of its own today.
More than 100 volunteers from Hilton Worldwide spent the day renovating Door of Hope on North Bellevue Boulevard in Midtown.
Along with improving the curb appeal of Door of Hope, the crew of workers painted walls inside, cleaned bathrooms and renovated the organization’s office space and support center.
Door of Hope provides housing and services to those who have been homeless for at least a year due to mental or physical problems.
“This means a lot to the Door of Hope because of the population we deal with; they’re off in the group that gets left out or forgotten about and to have such a big corporation come in and want to get their time and energy and love to provide support for our clients means the world to us,” Porsha Goodman, the executive director of Door of Hope, said.
Door of Hope houses around 52 people in the community at two houses and some apartments in the community.
The organization said the work done Wednesday to the Bellevue home would have taken them years to do on their own.
Hilton Worldwide was glad to lend a hand
“It’s just very important as a community we help some of these organizations. We are helping some of the most downtrodden to make it a better place for them for the Memphis community,” said Bill Duncan with Hilton Worldwide.
This the third year Hilton has worked with Door of Hope. Last year workers made improvements to their home near the University of Tennessee.
Volunteer Memphis also took part in the event today.
