(Memphis) A Memphis man has been charged with running an illegal and untaxed liquor “still” in Shelby County.
Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson Chip Washington tells WREG, A.L.E.R.T. Detectives were told about the “still” by an anonymous source, who also told them the liquor was being taken to Arkansas for sale.
When questioned, Charles Materna admitted he was making liquor in a shop in the back of the home in the 1100 block of Creston Ave. He even showed detectives the garage where he produced and distilled the liquor. Among other items, detectives found 30 gallons of “mash,” 10 gallons of finished “corn whiskey,” a 6 foot tall marijuana plant and 8 bars of Zanax.
Materna is facing various charges including Possession with Intent to Sell, Possession of a Still and Transportation of more than three Gallons of Unstamped Alcoholic Beverages.
