DESOTO COUNTY, Miss. — DeSoto County deputies said a duo was arrested for stealing weapons, trailers, lawn equipment and much more in a crime spree that spanned at least seven Mid-South counties.

On Wednesday, Donald South II was arrested in Hernando at a probation office hours after deputies plastered his photo on Facebook.

Samantha Waller turned herself in last week.

“They slowly drove in,” said a woman, who wanted to remain anonymous for safety reasons.

She said the couple pulled into her driveway on Byhalia Road last month claiming they were interested in buying some property.

“They were asking about the property for sale, and [my neighbor] told them there was no property for sale,” she said.

Detectives said Waller and South stole a trailer a few doors down.

The pair was also accused of thefts in Tunica, Tate, Marshall, Benton, Shelby and Fayette counties.

“Trailers, lawn equipment, phones, anything. They are pretty much a one-stop shop. Whatever you have available, they will take,” said Macon Moore with DCSO.

Detectives caught the duo’s getaway car on a security camera last month.

After they posted the picture on Facebook, Waller apparently walked into the Sheriff’s Office and turned herself in.

Right now, Waller and South are facing grand larceny charges in DeSoto County.

“We have been interviewing her. It’s an ongoing investigation,” Moore said.

DeSoto County deputies said they have an email chain going with agencies across the Mid-South to see if this pair committed any crimes in other areas.

They are also contacting pawn shops to see if they can track down any of the stolen items.
