(Memphis) Parents took the streets outside of Ridgeway High School Monday in morning to protest a recent decision to rule the basketball team ineligible for the remainder of this season.
“Somebody in the school system should’ve caught this,” said Dennis Price Sr. His son plays on the team.
Ridgeway has to forfeit all games which included the player that MCS claims falsified his transcript. The team is no longer in contention for the state championship according to TSSAA.
“MCS dropped the ball,” added Price.
MCS Southeast regional superintendent Terrence Brown said the school received a false transcript from the student, that News Channel 3 discovered is Mckenzie Sewell, when he enrolled in the fall.
The school requested an official transcript and received it several weeks later.
However the transcripts were not compared until last week, when the school was investigating a separate incident.
“He looked just like a student. He had a Mohawk and everything so he kind of blended in. That’s really cheating our basketball team; we were going to be the champs,” said student Jecorey Anderson.
MCS said they continue to investigate the issue internally.
