COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. — More than 12,000 people are expected to lace up their running shoes next weekend for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Collierville.

Like many events of this size, traffic and parking are sometimes an issue. Organizers say it shouldn’t be a problem this year.

Breast cancer survivors and their supporters are already getting excited about the 5k run that’s just a week away.

The Race store is open in Germantown. Executive director Elaine Hare says her organization is working with Collierville police to make sure everyone running in the 5k has a place to park.

Last year they ran into some problems with parking, and they’re trying to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

“So we have enough parking for everybody to get their smoothly,” Hare said.

This is the second year in a row the race is starting at the Carriage Crossing Shopping Center in Collierville. Unlike last year, they’re offering extra shuttle parking

“We have eight offsite locations and that’s included with your packet so you know where you should go. We also have over 2,500 spots at Carriage Crossing and we have field Parking,” said Hare.

Hare also had some advice for people running in the race.

“Come early. 385 gets crowded. We had the highest ever population in that part of the county,” she said.

Hare says last year was a learning lesson and you should expect better this year.

Houston Levee will not be closed this year. That was one road that created the biggest problem last year.
