MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Veterans in need of care face an additional barrier when they come to the VA Medical Center in Memphis – there’s a huge parking problem.

A viewer reached out to WREG on Monday telling us there are still long lines when trying to get into the lot each time.

Veterans and their families find themselves oftentimes going in circles before they enter the building.

“They give wonderful services if you can park to get to them. They wonder why my blood pressure was high-30 minutes to park. My blood pressure was up. Then they want to put me on blood pressure medicine. My blood pressure’s not high at home,” said Richard Warrington.

We reached out the VA Medical Center for comment.

They said they have received complaints and made changes to fix parking problems before.

In January, approximately 106 employee parking spaces were converted into patient parking only.

There’s a parking garage coming soon that will create an additional 252 spaces.

Construction is expected to begin in late 2017.

Parking is currently limited due to construction projects in the Emergency Department and the Bed Tower.

The VA said those projects will be completed next springs and next fall.
