Neighbor’s act of kindness is an answered prayer for couple in need

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis husband and wife’s morning prayer for a blessing was answered before they even asked.

“They’re my neighbors for like three or four years now. And, you know, they’re to themselves. We speak to each other but other than that, you know, they’re to themselves, they’re not going to ask for help. They’re great neighbors,” said Tiara Leonard.

Tiara says Tammy Dodd and her husband James are great neighbors, but recently she noticed their car hadn’t moved in weeks, and their grass needed cutting.

“I noticed some differences in their home situation, and I got a call from Tammy about a month ago just advising me of some health concerns that she had recently. And I just thought it would be nice to be able to help them out,” said Tiara.

Tiara reached out to WREG and we handed her some Pass It On money. A total of $600 — $300 from News Channel three, and another $300 from our owner.

Tiara advised of the time of day we could catch Tammy at home, so we walked next door, rang the doorbell, and tried knocking. We called and even sent a message but we got no response.

Four days later, we returned to try again. This time there were signs of life inside the house.

“Hey, sorry about the camera, but I know I told you that I had a yard man coming over. Yeah, but actually, what we did was we contacted WREG, News channel three, and they have a program called Pass It On. And I know you confided in me girl about a month ago about your health. Your scare,” said Tiara Leonard.

“I had a mini-stroke and I couldn’t walk, now I’m walking,” said Tammy Dodd.

Tammy has gone from a wheelchair to walking in less than three months, and now, another prayer is being answered.

“Me and my husband got together. I woke him up at 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning and I said ‘Let’s pray and ask God to help us through this process. He touched your heart to think about me even when my family didn’t. And, I appreciate this. Thank you so much,” said Tammy.

This week’s Pass It On is a prayer answered. Tammy says she can now pay all of her bills.

“I really think it’s extremely important now for you to watch out for each other. You never know what people are going through, but you got to be observant and stay in your lane, but at the same time, keep your eyes open,” said Tiara.

We found out Tammy was not home when we tried to deliver the Pass It On money the first say because she was registering for college. She is going back to school to get her degree.
