A house fire cost a woman her Orange Mound house and left neighborhood kids without one of their safe havens.

The house was a popular spot to pick up snacks and some motherly advice, so community members reached out to WREG to see if they could Pass It On to Deidra Tuggle and help her rebuild.

Tuggle is known as the Candy Lady in the neighborhood but a fire last month at the house on Cella Street forced her to move.

“This means so much to me because we’ve been in the house since my grandfather built that house in the 1920’s and 30’s, and that means so much to me for my community to come and do this for me,” she said.
