MEMPHIS, Tenn. — WREG got our hands on a letter a group of pastors sent to District Attorney Amy Weirich’s office.

In it they said it’s been far too long since any new information has been released in the Darrius Stewart investigation, and they said it was time for answers.

“We talk about the fact that justice seems to grind slow, but fine — but it seems like justice isn’t grinding at all, in this case,” said one of the men.

They said there’s been a delay in information available to the public about the death of Darrius Stewart in July.

The teen was killed by a police officer during a traffic stop.

Now this group of pastors asked the District Attorney to be more open about the TBI found out.

“When there’s silence it breeds suspicion. There’s already a widening of distrust between the community and the police. So if we can get timely, reliable, and factual information to the people, I think they can be more at ease.”

In the letter, the pastors called it “appalling” that it has been so long since new information was released.

They let the D.A. know they’re still paying attention to the investigation and plan to hold her office accountable.

“We want to know what happened in that shooting. We serve a constituency of thousands of people across the Mid-South, and they want to know what happened to this young man. People are angry, they’re anxious. We’re trying to prevent a powder keg from exploding like Ferguson or Baltimore.”
