(Memphis) Some former paramedics say they are scrambling to put food on the table for their families because they say their boss hasn’t paid them for months.
“There are people now because of this situation have lost their homes or lost cars and they are unable to feed their families,” said former Eagle Medical employee Jason Boatright.
These former employees say their boss hasn’t paid them since mid-April.
On top of that, Boatright says the company is blaming the employees.
“Mr. Wilkerson was heard making a comment that the employees who are having financial problems…it’s their own fault because they have to live paycheck to paycheck,” said Boatright.
They say their boss, Allan Wilkerson, has a habit of spending the company’s money when it barely had enough for payroll.
“The first time we didn’t get paid, he said that it was because the payroll hadn’t sent our checks, but the fact of the matter is payroll never ran because we never had the money to cover the taxes on it,” said former Eagle Medical employee Patti Lovett.
Lovett was in charge of payroll and says Wilkerson tried to downplay their inability to make payroll promising the money overtime.
She has a stack of emails illustrating what she calls lies to cover up why they weren’t getting paid.
“It takes a cowardly person to treat employees who have been so loyal. And even when they know the chips are down, they show up, and they put their families on the line,” said Lovett.
After weeks of no pay and several bounced checks, Lovett says about half of the company’s one hundred employees left.
She says the company now only has four ambulances operating, and it’s impacting response times.
Wilkerson told News Channel 3 his company has no statement about what’s going on.
