MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Cordova man was indicted on Monday for stealing a pair of glasses worn by legendary singer Elton John.
Matthew Colvin, 26, was charged with theft of property for stealing the memorabilia from a display case at the Rock ‘n’ Soul Museum on Tuesday, April 21.
He could face two to four years in prison.
His bond was set at $25 thousand.
A theft of property warrant was issued for Colvin earlier that same day.
The glasses were discovered missing from an exhibit April 21.
Police said fingerprints found on a plexiglass display case match those of Colvin.
According to police, “On April 27, 2015, Colvin was contacted by phone and admitted to South Main Station investigators that he had stolen the eyeglasses and they were at a residence in Southaven, Mississippi. Memphis Police officers notified Southaven Police, who went by the location and retrieved the eyeglasses.”
The glasses were part of an exhibit on the 60th Anniversary of Rock n Roll.
The heart-shaped glasses are on loan from a private owner and said to be insured for over $2,000,
