Peabody named ‘Best Historic Hotel’

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Peabody ducks certainly have something to quack about today.

The Peabody Memphis was named the “Best Historic Hotel” in the 400-plus rooms category by Historic Hotels of America in an awards ceremony Thursday, Oct. 8.

The awards honor hotels “demonstrating the highest contribution to furthering the celebration of history and demonstrating leadership and innovation.”

The Peabody originally opened in 1869, and it has been at its current location on Union Avenue since 1925. Dubbed “The South’s Grand Hotel,” it’s loved for its famous duck marches and Southern charm. The hotel also makes an appearance on the National Register of Historic Places.

The awards ceremony included 17 categories with 200 total nominees.

Other historic hotel winners include the Green Park Inn in Blowing Rock, North Carolina, The Jefferson in Washington and Loews Don CeSar Hotel in St. Pete Beach, Florida.
