MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police say a pedestrian was struck and killed in South Memphis Friday evening.

Officers responded to the scene on Lamar Avenue near South Barksdale Street. The victim was reportedly struck after stepping into the street. She was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police arrested Shakourya Dickerson in connection with the crash. According to court documents, Dickerson struck the victim while she was trying to cross from the south side of Lamar to the north side.

Court documents say Dickerson left the scene without trying to help the victim. She reportedly told her parents what happened. Her parents then called the police.

Dickerson has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving death or injury, as well as duty to give information and render aid.
