MEMPHIS, Tenn. —  Memphis police were called to the area of Sam Cooper and Graham overnight following a shooting early Wednesday.

According to authorities, a man got into a verbal altercation with someone inside an East Memphis sports bar.

After leaving, someone reportedly pulled up beside the man and opened fire somewhere near Sam Cooper and I-240.

The suspects were possibly in a light blue, two-door Volkswagen, police said.

On Wednesday, Captain Mark Little with the Southaven Police Department confirmed that the victim in this case was an off-duty police officer. He said the officer was not injured and fully cooperated with the investigation.

This is the second shooting on a Mid-South roadway in less than 24 hours.

Police responded to another shooting Tuesday night on Highway 385 near Ridgeway.

In both cases the victims were not badly hurt.
