MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis woman said she wouldn’t tolerate reckless drivers in her neighborhood anymore.

Fannie Gamble told WREG a driver crashed into her fence Sunday in the 4100 block of Dunn Road in East Memphis, not far from Getwell.

Gamble had a lot of cleaning up to do after the truck hit her fence and ended up in her driveway.

“That`s where all the glass was up in there and the truck was flipped up over here. See where all the dirt and stuff is? My grandkids cleaned it up,” she said.

Gamble said she came outside after hearing the loud noise and that`s when she noticed the truck.

The engine was still running but the driver was nowhere in sight.

Whoever was behind the wheel took the tags off the truck and then took off.

“I don`t think that people that`s living here should have to go through that,” she said.

Neighbors told WREG this wasn`t the first time someone crashed into a fence like that.

In fact they said it happens all the time.

There have even been times when homes were even hit.

According to police reports, this was the second time someone ran into Gamble`s fence in the past four years.

“I`m thinking that little bump up there is raised up high. That`s when they get to speeding and that`s when something happens, either here, that house, or the one on the corner, but mostly mine,” said Gamble as she pointed to at least three homes on her street.

“They come around this corner doing 65 and 70 and we have children. I really don`t like the speeding,” said another neighbor.

Some said they were tired of drivers treating their street like a speedway.

But even more, they were afraid someone might get hurt.

Gamble said she just reached out to Council member Wanda Halbert about the latest incident.

Halbert responded by saying the city was looking into this.

In the meantime, Gamble has started gathering  signatures for a petition to gain support from people to get speed bumps.
