MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Ronnie Turnmire rushed when he heard what happened to his brother Roy. “He was coming straight this way and the car flipped him,” said Turnmire. The lifelong truck driver was headed through the intersection at Holmes and Getwell when he was hit on the side by a Dodge Charger. The man behind the wheel was trapped inside and witnesses rushed to try to give him CPR. The impact left the 18-wheeler on its side and made such a loud noise people from inside huge warehouses came running. “It sounded like thunder. It sound just like a bomb blew up,” said Michael Robinson. He was one of the first on the scene and, like so many who went up to the car, said the driver was going entirely too fast. “They said he was speeding and the speedometer is in there now locked on 120. You can’t play with automobiles and these trucks; it’s a no win situation,” said Robinson. Police worked for hours to cut the man’s body from the car. The truck driver is okay, and police are left trying to figure out why the man was going so fast.
