Police: Family’s home set on fire, in effort to shoot them as they fled the flames

HELENA-WEST HELENA, Ark. — Police are searching for two men who threw a pair of Molotov cocktails at a home Wednesday night.

Police believed the men intended to start a fire to draw the family out of the home where they would be vulnerable to gunfire.

John Foreman saw the two men in his backyard lighting Molotov cocktails.

“It was like a glass orange juice bottle and a liquor bottle,” said the 14-year old.

The teen started screaming for his mother. They headed for the front door, but that’s when things got even scarier.

“They seen us coming out the house and they started shooting,” said Foreman.

Police appeared to have witnessed the same thing.

“As the officer was pulling up he heard gunshots and witnessed two black males in dark clothing running from the home,” said Virgil Green, Helena-West Helena’s Chief of Police.

The night before, someone torched the family’s car and, yes, they think they know why.

A relative who doesn’t live at the home may have taken something from a drug dealer.

Police are investigating, the kids can’t sleep at night, and the family just wants peace.

“I go to church every Sunday. I don’t have any beef with these guys but they need to leave my family alone,” said Calvin Forman.

The family is working with police to help make an arrest.
