MEMPHIS, Tenn. — One man is dead and two women injured following a drive-by shooting overnight in the Cherokee area.

According to police, the incident happened around one a.m. Friday along Lamar Avenue near Semmes.

Police confirmed all three victims were sitting in a gold Nissan Maxima when they were shot at several times by someone in an SUV.

All three were rushed to the hospital but the male victim did not survive his injuries. The two women are expected to be okay.

Authorities are still trying to determine exactly where the shooting occurred. They said it may have happened at a nearby shopping center but shell casings were also found at a gas station.

Ran Truitt said he was near a small strip mall when he heard the shots, and saw a woman open the driver side of this car and a man fall to the ground.

“That’s all I saw,” he said. “I didn’t see no other vehicle or faces. The only face I saw was the one of the guy who died.”

“Their car was covered with bullet holes, and the crime scene so big, it spread all the way across Lamar.

“They meant business right there,” Truitt said. “That was crazy right there. That was crazy. I don’t what kind of dealing they had or whatever 40 but if it was petty that wasn’t called for.”

Many people in this area were afraid to talk on camera about what happened, but say the crime in Memphis is getting out of hand.
