MEMPHIS, Tenn. — One man is dead following a shooting Friday morning in the Willow Oaks apartments at Airways and Ketchum.
According to police, the victim was found inside a car, shot multiple times. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
Loved ones at the scene say the victim was a grandfather overcoming cancer.
Suemi Morales says she raced across town after hearing the man shot was her uncle.
“Last week I just talked to him,” she said.
Police haven’t confirmed who the victim was, who opened fire or what led up to the shooting.
Morales says her uncle lived in the apartment complex. She said he was working to provide for his children and grandchildren while also battling health problems.
She said he recently had surgery.
We watched police comb the scene and speak to witnesses as neighbors also tried to put the pieces together.
“I’m glad my kids aren’t here to see this and hope this is all wrapped up before they get home,” neighbor Katrina Wilson said.
