MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis man was rushed to the hospital following an attempted robbery in Raleigh.

It happened shortly before 3 a.m. Friday in the 3000 block of Scotland Road in the Scenic Hills neighborhood.

The victim told police a man approached him and then tried to rob him before he was shot. The victim was rushed to the hospital from the scene, but he is expected to be okay.

“I’m distraught to hear this,” said Aaron Fowles, who woke up to learn the shooting happened a few feet from his front door. “I’m still in shock, especially because this is right next to my house.”

He has called this area home for six years, even serving as neighborhood association president. Although shocked, he says he’s not surprised, because violence can happen anywhere, and crime knows no ZIP code.

“Culture also knows no ZIP code,” Fowles said. “This is a neighborhood with great culture. We have neighborhood picnics, people look out for each other.”

Unfortunately under the cover of darkness, the gunman was able to get away. However there is the possibility someone may have seen something that could help detectives track down the would-be robber.

In addition to watchful neighbors, home surveillance cameras and SkyCop cameras were recently installed.
