MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Authorities are searching for two suspects after a Memphis man was sent to the hospital following an early morning shooting in the Crosstown neighborhood.
According to police, a 57-year-old man had just left The Pumping Station located on Poplar Avenue near Cleveland when the suspect approached him from behind, pulled a gun and demanded his car keys and wallet. The victim threw his car keys into his 2017 Dodge Challenger and was reaching for his wallet when the suspect suddenly pulled the trigger.
The victim ran back to the bar for help as the suspect fled down the street.
Police said a bar employee was the one who dialed 911 after he heard a pop and saw the victim holding his chest. He also potentially helped save the man’s life by putting pressure on the wound until an ambulance arrived.
Two witnesses told officers after shooting the victim, the suspect ran northbound through the Kroger parking lot where he was picked up by a gold Nissan Maxima with a missing bumper. The suspect and the driver appeared to get into an argument before the suspect jumped in the passenger seat, one witness said.
Both fled northbound on Cleveland.
The victim was taken to the Regional Medical Center in critical condition.
