Man killed in shooting on Clarksdale street

CLARKSDALE, Miss. —  Clarksdale police have launched a homicide investigation after a man was shot and left in the middle of the street over the weekend.

According to police, first responders were called to the 500 block of Garfield Street early Saturday morning. That’s where they found 26-year-old David Wilson in the middle of the street suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Police say whoever took Wilson’s life stood over him and fired right into his face. He was later pronounced dead on the scene.

“They told me he was shot six times and it was execution-style,” his mother said. “For someone to take his life — it took a lot out of me.”

Neighbors say they saw Wilson walking home just moments before those shots rang out. They say he was so close to making it to his home he lived just one street over from where he died.

Wilson’s mother finds it strange that on a street clearly marked with neighborhood watch signs, everyone heard the gunshots but no one is talking to police about who killed her son.

“I am angry. He has a daughter that is 8 years old. He’s a young man that loves to play around have you laughing he’s not a violent person at all.”

This mother says she doesn’t see closure coming her way until someone is locked up.

So far, no arrests have been made.
