MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis Police said a jail employee was shot and killed, and a woman was injured in Frayser Sunday morning.
Officers responded to a report of a shooting at a home on William Tell Drive near Orman Avenue.
Police found Derrius Davis, 30, dead on the scene. Police say a woman was also shot. She was taken to the hospital in non-critical condition.
Officers have detained a man in connection with this shooting. Police say the investigation is ongoing.
Davis worked for the Shelby County Sheriff’s Officer as a corrections officer since February 2013, the sheriff’s office said.
At the same time, people in the neighborhood say this was a love-triangle gone wrong. Some things still are unclear, following the deadly double shooting on William Tell Drive.
Neighbors say this violent attack was both unexpected and upsetting.
“It’s a very traumatizing time, it’s just very shocking around here,” one neighbor said, who wanted to remain anonymous.
It was just before 8:30 Sunday morning, when police responded to a call for help. Someone close to the investigation telling us, the man shot and killed, may have been the aggressor.
It’s alleged he stormed into the home of his ex. The source goes on to say, he fires at least one round, hitting the woman in the leg. Another man, inside the home while this is happening, returns fire hitting and killing the man described as being an intruder.
Additionally, an investigator is telling us, the woman at the center of it all, is believed to be an employee with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department. With more and more details starting to surface, neighbors say the only thing they want is restored peace.
This shooting marks the second homicide of 2021.
We reached out to the sheriff’s office to confirm what the MPD investigator told us, that the woman involved works for them. The department would neither confirm or deny the information.
Only telling us, police are overseeing this case.
MPD did detain one person, but say this may be classified as a “justifiable homicide.”
