Police say man shot at two adults, 12-year-old boy in car

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A woman says a man shot at her with her 12-year-old son and a neighbor inside, right down the street from her home in the Nutbush area.

According to authorities, a woman was driving down Chelsea Avenue early Sunday morning with her neighbor and son, when she was forced to come to a stop.

She said another driver had stopped in front of her at a home. He got out of the car and started walking to the driveway.

“He let a guy out,” said the woman, who did not want to be identified. “I waited and he threw his hand up like, ‘Sorry about that, or hold on,’ and I said okay. I threw my hand up like, ‘No problem.'”

As the woman was driving by, she said the man pulled out a gun and fired several shots at her vehicle. No one inside was hurt.

“The guy they let out was walking towards his front door, and before he ever got mid-driveway, he immediately turned around and started firing shots,” she said.

She told her son to duck, and covered him with her arms. Police were called to the scene and found four shell casings.

“If my window was half down they would’ve hit me and not my son. It’s crazy.”

Saul Llanes Guillen was taken into custody on three counts of aggravated assault. It’s unclear why he fired shots, and the victim says she didn’t recognize him.

The neighborhood around where the shooting happened on Chelsea Extended is a high-traffic area, with neighborhood watch signs posted.

The woman says she hears gunshots here all of the time. She says a lot of it stems from a gang problem, and she says that’s what you can expect in this neighborhood.

But what she did not expect was to become a victim herself.

“When I was a kid I could go around and ride my bike around the neighborhood,” she said.

She says she’s licensed to carry and had her gun with her that morning, but didn’t want to hurt anyone.

“It’s crazy,” she said. “This whole neighborhood has gone crazy.”
