(Memphis) Memphis police need help identifying a man and a woman who allegedly abducted a Raleigh woman and forced her to withdraw money from her bank account.
Police said that on Monday afternoon, the female suspect approached the victim in the parking lot of the Regions branch near Covington Pike and Stage. She started by asking the victim for directions.
Then, police said she used a weapon to force the woman back into her car, and demanded the victim drive to the Family Dollar at Austin Peay and Yale.
There, they picked up a male suspect. Police said the suspects demanded the woman withdraw $4,000, but the victim said she didn’t have that much in her account.
At the Regions branch at Austin Peay and Yale, the female suspect allegedly walked into the bank with the victim, and waited for her to withdraw cash. The victim turned over $1,500.
Police said the female suspect threatened to hurt the victim if she caused a scene.
“If somebody’s going to stick me up, and I’m going in a place to get some money for him, I’m going to let somebody know, hey, he got me. I’d let somebody know,” said Freddie Warr, who sells hot tamales at that corner.
Warr said he always has to keep an eye out for possible threats. He said he would have tried to get the attention of the people inside the bank.
He said, “I’m going to fall down or something. Fall down on the floor. That’ll draw some attention.”
While the women were in the bank, the male suspect allegedly walked across the street to the Exxon gas station. Police said the female suspect later took the cash and joined the man.
The victim, a 46-year-old woman from Raleigh, said she was too upset to do an interview.
