Police officer arrested after bar fight

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – It’s no secret Memphis police like to hang out at the TJ Mulligans in Cordova.  There was even a fundraiser here when officers were raising support for their benefits debate with the city, and so Christmas Eve night it’s not unusual Officer Craig Brewer was here.

Witnesses tell us Brewer, Johannes Vosloo and Charles Williams started arguing with three other men inside the bar and were asked to leave.  But when they got into the parking lot, fists flew. Brewer, Vosloo and Williams hurt the other men and took off in their car.

A witness took down the plate number leading police to have to arrest one of their own.

“It’s just an unfortunate thing,  I would think so.”

This man lives near Officer Brewer, and says he’s never seen any signs of violence from him.

“Our neighbor’s a good guy out there with family, always plays ball with his son. We’re glad to have him in the neighborhood.”

Brewer and Vosloo turned themselves in but Charles Williams is still on the run.  In the neighborhoods where the men live, people say they think it was just something that got out of hand.

Still, Police Director Toney Armstrong says Brewer will be held accountable.

Armstrong was out of town but said, “We will not let this officers bad decision of getting involved with this type of behavior ruin all the good things MPD is working towards.”
