CLARKSDALE, Miss. — The Clarksdale police officer who was shot Saturday evening has been identified as Cpl. Derrick Couch.

Couch has served the Clarksdale Police Department since December 2011, Clarksdale Assistant Police Chief Robbie Linley said.

He has been in the Community Police Division, Special Operations Division and Patrol Division.

Couch worked for the Tunica County Sheriff’s Office before he was on the force in Clarksdale.

He is married and has one or two kids, Clarksdale Mayor Bill Luckett said.

Couch was shot in the head Saturday evening while investigating a robbery, Luckett said.

He is in critical condition.

“It did not look good, but hopefully he’ll pull through,” Luckett said. “He needs a miracle.”

Clarksdale Police have arrested the man they believe shot Couch.
