Police recover several stolen Porsches hidden around Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police recovered five of seven stolen Porsches Wednesday morning. Police say crooks hid the luxury cars in plain sight.

Tuesday, thieves drove off the Gossett dealership lot in sweet rides, but by nightfall, tipsters called police claiming they spotted the high-end hot rods around town.

Reports came in the cars were at the Pilot truck stop on Lamar.

Truck driver Donna Baker says that wasn’t a smart move for the criminals.

“It would be right out in the open, a lot of people would see it,” Baker said.

Police didn’t find any of the luxury sports cars at the truck stop. Detectives discovered two at the downtown Comfort Inn garage, one at Shelby Drive and Kirby Parkway, and two of the stolen Porsches from Regional One Hospital’s parking lot.

“Anything is bound to happen in Memphis,” driver Carl Spearman said.

A tow truck driver told WREG  the thieves were on their way to Georgia with the cars, but one of the suspected thieves went the wrong way on their way out of town and got lost.

“You can get them on 78. If they got lost, 78 is the main traffic to Georgia,” Spearman said.

Douglas Scott, 32, was arrested Wednesday and charged with seven counts of theft of property greater than $60,000 and driving with a suspended or revoked license.

Michael Ward, 27, was also charged with seven counts of theft of property greater than $60,000.

Jettie Harris, 36, is charged with evading arrest in addition to seven counts of theft of property greater than $60,000.
