MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police release new details about a disturbing shooting inside a library in North Memphis.
It happened around 3:30 Thursday afternoon at the North Branch Library on Vollintine.
Police said a man was just talking on his phone in the lobby when a guy in a black hoodie silently walked up behind him and pulled the trigger.
Witnesses said the suspect didn’t say a word.
He then reportedly went into the parking lot and fired multiple shots before getting away in a gray car.
Police have yet to catch the guy.
Officers stood guard in the parking lot Friday and kept their eyes peeled for him.
They also brought a Sky Cop camera and placed next to the library too.
“I didn’t think it would be there of all places,” said Kameran Huggins, who solemnly passed the library.
He always felt safe there.
“It shouldn’t be happening. Something needs to be done about it,” he said.
The victim went to the hospital on his own. He is expected to be okay.
The concern is now directed at the library.
It’s a place where kids hang out, where support groups get together and where the community had a crime meeting just hours before the shooting happened.
Police increased patrols in the area.
Again, the shooter has yet to be found as of Friday evening.
Police said he could be anywhere.
