MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Police responded to a home in East Memphis Tuesday morning after getting a call about a child being left alone.

It happened at The Hamlets Condominiums off Mt. Moriah Road.

The mother of the 11-month-old reportedly told the child’s father she was leaving the baby alone.

When police got there, the father was back at the home with the baby, and the child was not hurt.

Police haven’t said where the mother was or how long the baby had been left alone.

Neighbors said police have been to that condo a number of times, but they never imagined it would lead to that.

“That’s sad. That’s sad. That’s a sad situation,” said Angelo Boone, who lives a few doors away with his wife Jeannie.

Tuesday, they were watching their great-granddaughter and said there is no situation where it is okay to leave a young child home alone.

“They can get into the devastating stuff, and they can kill themselves. You hear about these kids getting guns and killing sisters and brothers, and you just can’t do it,” Jeannie Boone said.

Police haven’t said why the mother left the child alone.

So far, no charges have been filed.

DCS was called in to investigate.
