Police search for suspect in Beale Street shooting

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police are looking for the person who shot a man early Monday morning outside Club 152 on Beale Street.

New surveillance footage may help them nab the shooter.

It showed a man walking away from Club 152 while a woman in a black Cadillac is inching down Second.

You see the man then hop into the car before it drives away.

Witnesses said they saw a crowd leave the club around 3:20 a.m., heard gunshots and saw people run for cover. Police said the shooting was connected to a fight that occurred at the club earlier.

Police found the victim about a block away at the Peabody Place parking garage with a gunshot wound to the shoulder.

“Managers said there was not a shooting inside Club 152,” said Ty Agee of the Beale Street Merchants Association.

Two years ago Club 152 was forced to close because of drug activity and violence but allowed to reopen a short time later.

Agee said managers at the club didn’t know anything about a fight inside the club.

He said the violence was not a Beale Street problem, but rather a Memphis problem that needs to be addressed.

“It was a rough weekend for Memphis. It’s crazy because every day you turn on the news and that’s what you see, which is a shame because Memphis is a great town,” Agee said.

The victim had to undergo surgery.

Police said the suspect is a black male with dreaded hair wearing a black jacket with red sleeves and dark-colored jeans.
