CORINTH, Miss. — A mother said she would get justice for her son and his friend who were shot to death in Corinth, Mississippi.

Ahmarus Swinney and Deonta Herman were killed Saturday night outside the Nashway Apartment complex after a gang fight turned violent.

Police continued to search for suspects.

No arrests have been made.

Police said they could be looking for as many as six shooters.

Meanwhile, Swinney’s mother, Iris Swinney-King, told WREG her son was just trying to stop a fight between Deonta Herman and other gang members when the gunfire erupted.

“They shot my baby in the head! They didn’t want him to live!” she cried.

Corinth Police Chief Ralph Dance happened to be driving in the area with his windows down just moments before.

“I heard shots ring out. Somewhere between 50, 75 or 100 shots,” he said.

Dance believed a fight broke out between gang members, and Swinney and Herman were shot.

It was the most gunfire he has ever heard at one time.

“There was a rifle involved. There were several handguns involved. We counted at least four different caliber of weapons that were used,” he said.

Swinney had been in trouble before, but his mother and Chief Dance said he had turned his life around.

“He used to fight. He used to get in trouble. He used to do a lot of things like we all used to. So did I, but I turned around. I changed, and so did he.”

Police say Herman was armed when he was shot.

Swinney was not.

King said she thinks she knows some of the people who killed her son, and she vowed she would not rest until they pay.

“If your fingerprint is on one bullet, you were going down!”

King is working closely with police.

They said they had several solid leads and hope arrests are coming soon.
