MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two men are wanted for robbing and shooting at two women Monday afternoon. Bellevue Baptist Church was evacuated and searched, but the men weren’t located. Deputies tell WREG’s Jessica Gertler security may have seen at least one of the men running across the parking lot. The robbery happened at about 12:40 p.m. at the Woodchase Apartments, which are located in the 1900 block of Barnsbury Way. Family members told the two women were in a blue Jeep when the men approached and demanded money. The men then shot at the women, but got away when officers ran after them. No one was injured, although a bullet hole is visible in the Jeep’s door. Family members said they’re shaken up about this and can’t believe how bold the men were to rob someone at gunpoint in the middle of the afternoon. Marilyn was walking her dog Maggie when she saw all of the police cars. “You don’t even know if you can be safe during the day,” she said. Marilyn didn’t know what happened, but sadly, she wasn’t surprised to see the police. Family says the women had a lot of cash on them because they were coming to pay rent. Neighbors like Marilyn say they wouldn’t be dealing with these kinds of problems if the police were more visible in the apartment complex. “I just wish the police would go around and watch the neighborhood a bit better,” Marilyn said. While she doesn’t know the family involved in this, she says her heart goes out to them for having such a scare so close to the holidays. “Very much so. Especially this time of year,” she said. Police say the men who robbed the women got away on foot, but neighbors think they may live nearby. Police have not released descriptions of the men.
