MEMPHIS, Tenn. — One person was taken into custody following a barricade situation near the Liberty Bowl early Thursday morning.
According to police, an undercover officer was in the area doing an investigation when a man at a home on Young Avenue opened fire. The officer fired back and that’s when the shooter barricaded himself inside.
WREG was told there were three other people inside the home at the time.
Police were forced to shutdown Hollywood between Southern and Midland. The tactical unit was also called in to assist.
A man trying to get to his job at the Coca Cola Plant found himself out of luck.
Police wouldn’t even let him walk the few hundred yards to the entrance.
“I had to walk way down there and go around. That’s another 30 minutes,” he said.
For hours police worked to get those inside to come out before it finally came to an end peacefully just before 9 a.m.
“Yeah, he finally came out,” a neighbor said.
Police aren’t saying how the suspect was involved in the undercover investigation, but they are glad the standoff ended the way it did.
They say their main priority was making sure the public and their officers were safe.
