MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Southeast Memphis community was on edge on Saturday after learning a father was robbed and assaulted a few feet from the front door of his home.
It happened at a house on Clearbrook Street on Thursday around 7:30 p.m.
Police said an 18- and 19-year-old were responsible for the crime and are now behind bars.
The victim’s family told WREG he pulled up in his driveway when the two teenagers came out of nowhere.
Police said they walked up with guns and robbed him.
Investigators said the men hit Luis Rivera in the face, took is cash and drove off in his car.
Rivera was not hurt.
The man’s family said the crooks not only got away with their stuff but also their peace of mind.
The victim’s oldest son said he was sad “because I thought I was going to lose him forever.”
“You really don’t think that is going to happen to you ’cause like you just see people walking down the street and like now it is going to be frightening to see them walking knowing what happened,” Teresa Sotullo said.
Officer spotted Jeremy Tyson and Melek Lacy in the victim’s car about 10 minutes later near Knight Arnold and Mendenhall.
The suspects ditched the car and tried getting away, according to police.
Officers said the men were later caught, handcuffed and thrown in jail.
Police claimed the teenagers had a stolen gun, one of them did not have a driver’s license and detectives found drugs in the car.
WREG looked at an MPD crime map of the area and found more than 100 reported robberies within a two-mile radius from where the latest carjacking happened.
The crime stats information was provided by an MPD database within the last three months.
