MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Two people were shot and one person was grazed by a bullet in Binghampton on Tuesday, Memphis Police said.
Officers responded to the 200 block of East Red Oaks at 1:30 p.m.
A male victim was transported to Regional One Hospital. He’s listed in “extremely critical condition.”
The female victim was transported in non-critical condition.
“It’s been going on for the past two years where they don’t have no security at this gate,” said neighbor Erica Norwood. “It’s always something. Its’s always just random people coming around doing stuff.”
Norwood says she was getting ready to pick her 9-year-old up from school when she heard gunshots at the Chickasaw Apartments.
“I heard at least 20 to 30 shots, big shots. After those shots, we heard six more, and one of the fellas started running. He was shot in the leg, arm, his hand and he had one shot to the head,” she said.
Norwood tells WREG there’s a shooting a the apartment complex on a daily basis.
She’s even seen teen with high-powered weapons.
“It’s been going on recently for the past two weeks. There have been children standing inside the gate with AR rifles.” she said. “One child had one sitting on his arm. I had to move my child out the way, because he was holding it.”
We checked with the leasing office to see what days security works. They told us everyday.
When we asked to speak to the manager about his hours and safety concerns for residents, they hung up the phone.
Brandon Bulter, who also lives in the neighborhood, says he went to pick his son up from school early so he wouldn’t get caught in the crossfire while getting off the school bus.
“There are a lot of kids over here. So for that to be going on, it’s nerve-wrecking. We are trying to make sure our kids are safe everyday. So for all of this shooting to be going on in broad daylight is crazy,” he said.
The suspect fled the scene wearing a black shirt and blue jeans with a red and white stripe.
Police say there will be additional patrols in the area from now on.
