MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Part of a busy Hickory Hill intersection has been closed for hours Thursday after a woman arrived at a crash scene with gunshot wounds around 3 p.m.
Police say officers were on the scene of a “no injury crash” at Knight Arnold and Hickory Hill when the woman arrived. She was taken to Regional Medical Center in critical condition.
Napoleon Briggs said he was waiting on police to write a ticket after bumping a school bus when a man drove up in a Chevrolet Tahoe. His wife had been shot twice, according to family members.
“All of a sudden, the young man pulled up behind us saying, ‘Oh, a young lady’s been shot.’” Briggs said.
Briggs said he was told the couple was shot at by a someone in a black SUV while attempting to make a lane change near the Neighborhood Walmart on Apple Tree Drive, about a half mile from the crash scene.
“Apparently, a guy wouldn’t let them in down here by the Walmart, Neighborhood Walmart, and he shot at the car, at the vehicle, and the vehicle jumped the curb and showed up behind us,” Briggs said.
A WREG crew counted at least four bullet holes in the passenger’s side door of the Tahoe.
The victim’s family members said her condition was improving and that she is now talking after being at the hospital for hours.
