Possibility of Justice in Player Hoax

(Memphis) Cries for justice in the Ridgeway player scandal may go unanswered.

Former player McKinzey Sewell and his wife, Chaundrea Nicholle have told two different versions of how the 18-year-old was able to enroll as a Memphis City School student despite having his GED.

News Channel 3 spoke to Attorney Bruce Smith about the chance of charges being filed against either in the hoax.

Smith said that decision would be up to the Assistant District Attorney General who could seek felony and misdemeanor forgery charges. Another option would be a lawsuit for the cost of Sewell attending the school.

“The cost that Ridgeway entailed that was provided by the state could be recovered by the school district,” said Smith.

Some online comments have also tried to link Sewell to the murder of Ridgeway Coach Jimmy McClain but that Shelby County Sheriff’s Department said there is no proof of any connection.
