MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Just in time for Elvis Week, the U.S. Postal Service released the Elvis Presley Forever stamp Wednesday.
Local dignitaries, U.S. Postmaster General Megan Brennan and Priscilla Presley took part in a dedication ceremony of the commemorative stamp outside Graceland this morning.
A few hundred fans were also on hand for the unveiling.
The stamp is a picture taken of Elvis at a photography studio in Memphis in 1955, a year after he released his first single.
It also features a tiny crown for “The King.”
“You will notice the crown sitting between the word “forever” and USA. It is our way of saying he will forever live in our culture and in our memories, ” Brennan said.
Priscilla Presley said Elvis would have been thrilled by the honor.
“As you know, he loved Graceland, but to have a stamp named after him not just once in 1993, but twice, here we are 2015, ” she said.
The Elvis stamp released in 1993 is still one of the most popular commemorative stamps ever.
