MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A MLGW spokesperson said the utility has been monitoring the weather Wednesday to put crews on standby.
James Hardnett made the trip from his Raleigh home to MLGW’s downtown customer service center.
“Got to pay that bill before they give you a late charge,” Hardnett said.
However, customers who are behind on their bills don’t have to worry about power being shut off between Wednesday and Friday.
“What’s most important to Memphis Light, Gas, and Water is that our customers are safe,” Gayle Jones Carson, spokesperson for MLGW, said.
The company is hoping to keep its customers from enduring bone-chilling temperatures and dangerous weather conditions.
“When we have rain, strong rain, high winds, ice, or snow that freezes on the lines we tend to have more outages,” Jones Carson said.
The winter blast moving into the Mid-South on Wednesday can send trees and power lines crashing down.
“Should customers see any downed power lines, make sure they stay away from those lines because they can be very dangerous,” Jones Carson added.
People like Hardnett said they’ve been without power during storms and living without utilities isn’t easy.
MLGW said you should never assume they know your power is out.
