MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Powerball drawing for nearly $1.5 billion dollars is just hours away.

A BP gas station in Whitehaven was packed inside with folks hoping to be the lucky winner.

Drivers could barely get in the door because parking spaces were nearly impossible to find.

Some even parked on the side of the busy road to get their ticket.

“It’s a lot of people in there. I’ve been in there for like an hour waiting in line,” said Latonya O’Bryant.

“The line is too long so I decided to go some place else,” said Ronnie McMillan.

The gas station traditionally sells more lottery tickets than any other store in Shelby County.

It’s close to the state line and Mississippians take advantage of it because they don’t have the lottery.

“I live in Tunica so I came up here,” said Jack Swales.

Even tourists visiting Graceland stopped by to get a ticket.

Despite the lines, people were happy as they imagined how they would spend the money if they win.

“You would never be able to spend it all if you won it, but at least you wouldn’t have to work no more,” said James Tate.
