Prank call prompts evacuation

BRIGHTON, Tenn — Tipton County Sheriff’s deputies received a call to the 100 block of Daniel Drive in Brighton around 3:00 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

The caller said he was barricaded in the home, that he killed his father and was holding his mother and sister hostage. He also threatened to shoot Deputies if they attempted to go inside the house.

Due to the violent nature of the threats deputies cleared the immediate area and blocked of the road for the safety of the citizens and first responders.

Deputies contacted a woman in the home who agreed to meet them outside. She told them there was no disturbance in the home and allowed them to search the house.

They confirmed no one was injured and later determined the call did not come from the residence. It was a prank call.

“I am thankful that on one was harmed at the residence. The seriousness of the prank call demanded a response that utilized an enormous amount of resources and disrupted the Brighton community during the hour-long ordeal,” said Tipton Sheriff Pancho Chumley. “The Sheriff’s Office will aggressively prosecute the caller for the abuse of the E911 system and cost for the emergency response.
