MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after reportedly taking action when he spotted his estranged wife with another man early Monday morning.

The incident shutdown the eastbound lanes of Raines Road between Mendenhall and Clarke.

Bridgette Philmore was one of the many drivers detoured around the crime scene.

She says she was shocked when she found out someone had been shot there.

“Oh my God. That is terrible. God help this city,” Philmore said. “I really couldn’t see what was going on. All I saw was crime scene tape.”

According to initial reports, the estranged husband was driving down the street in a black Nissan Altima when he saw his wife and another man in another vehicle. The husband allegedly rammed the car, causing an accident.

When the cars stopped, both men got out and exchanged words, police said. At some point, the boyfriend fired four times, striking the husband.

He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. It’s unclear if all four shots struck the victim.

Contrary to social media reports, the victim in this case is still recovering at the hospital.

The boyfriend reportedly stayed on the scene and was detained.
